Kendo and Me

Graham Sayer (6th Dan)
President
All New Zealand Kendo Federation

I have been practicing Kendo for just on 20 years and I owe it so much.

The situations I face when practicing Kendo are just the same as situations faced in everyday life. I find that attempting to deal with fear, doubt, confusion and sometimes surprise make up good part of a typical Kendo practice and in many cases a good part of my working day as I attempt to continue to grow my small chain of retail shops. This is why for me Kendo and business are such a challenge and therefore something that I can learn huge amount about myself from.

The key for me is keep doing Kendo, not to look at it as some kind hobby that I could get a little sick of as time goes on.

We have a fantastic Kendo club in Auckland and we welcome Kendoist from all over the world - our dojo is a Kendo dedicated space of which we are all very proud.
