"Friendship through Kendo" is Club's basic philosophy.

The Waikato Kendo Club (WKC) has been established by Sam Tsai & Marleen Charng in March 1999. Sam and Marleen are new immigrants from Taiwan and started their Kendo journey since 1983. Currently both hold 4th Dan in Kendo.

WKC is a very supportive environment that helps every member, especially young people, exploring both of their physical and mental limitation, overcoming their own weaknesses, and developing strong and healthy characters.

Most of WKC members are university students and Kendo beginners. The WKC is proud of her members can manage study, Kendo training and friendship very well.
